The compact 52-56 square meters residence belongs to a homeowner who has lived in New York for many years and longed to recreate the refined charm of a boutique hotel combined with the familiar warmth of an American home. The design takes cues from American moldings, French glass doors, and crystal chandeliers. Within the constraints of an old apartment building and strict management regulations, the designer integrated Western-style Feng Shui principles, such as softened corners and mirrored concealment, to craft a serene urban retreat where the owner can comfortably stay for extended visits to Taiwan.
Upon entry, the kitchen island immediately becomes the focus. Green marble and white stone interlace in wave-like patterns, condensing the highlights of a luxury hotel into a compact form. In the living area, a small crystal chandelier reflects against the paneled wall, scattering soft fragments of light across the warm-toned white surface each afternoon.
In the bedroom, the dressing table is concealed behind a discreet door for Feng Shui considerations, maintaining a tidy façade. Corners and ceilings are refined with gentle radii to neutralize sharp angles. Upholding the principle of “waste-free renovation,” the designers preserved the original stone TV wall, using color correction through coating to introduce a fresh, warm-white tone. Amid the urban bustle beyond the window, the blend of old and new materials merges naturally—proof that thoughtful detailing can transcend time.
