The Poly Group and MGM finally unveil the Poly MGM Museum. This pioneering project represents the first collaborative effort to establish a coveted global art landmark and lead the charge in showcasing China’s esteemed cultural heritage.
Located within MGM MACAU premises, the museum partners with curators and prominent cultural institutions from around the globe to infuse the space with rare artifacts and art pieces.
At the heart of Poly MGM Museum lies a celebration of cultural diversity and coexistence. The design elegantly intertwines elements from East and West with contemporary art, seamlessly fusing latest technological advancements with the timeless beauty of traditional craftsmanship. Each exhibit reveals more than a story, being a tribute to the lasting influence and shared splendor of these diverse cultural realms.
The museum’s architectural design pays profound homage to the splendid traditional Chinese craftsmanship, weaving a compelling narrative of space that celebrates the outstanding artisanal artistry of China. The grandeur of the immersive lobby and preface hall reflect a sophisticated, adaptable layout that capture diverse themes, epitomizing versatility and spaciousness.
With its layered multimedia installations, the entrance dome embodies the integration of histories and cultures. It creates a realm where time represented by the celestial movements of the moon and hours, merging with humanity’s collective memories, crafting a captivating visual allegory of the sun and moon in harmonious unity.
Dougong is the pivotal attraction part of Intangible Cultural Heritage Craftsmanship. This column pays homage to two distinguished intangible cultural heritages that are quintessential to Chinese palatial architecture. A cap-and-block structure that is an example of modern mortise-and-tenon joinery and functions as a bracket between vertical columns and horizontal beams. This column was tailormade by Chinese artisans and is a monumental emblem of Chinese architectural excellence, ornately decorated with intricate cloisonné enamel upon copper to highlight its unparalleled elegance and superb craftsmanship.
The checkerboard stone flooring, inlaid with traditional cultural motifs illustrates a journey traversing the 12 nations of the Belt and Road Initiative. Arranged from east to west, it mirrors the historic Silk Road’s trajectory on the global map, revealing shared heritage connections.
