Memento envisions the regeneration of Stuyvesant Town, one of New York City’s most iconic residential communities, as a model for inclusive, intergenerational urban living. The proposal reimagines the aging superblock as a vibrant social ecosystem that connects people across generations through shared spaces, learning, and care.
At the ground level, the existing podium is transformed into a dynamic civic corridor—a marketplace and University for Seniors that blends education, wellness, and daily life into the rhythm of the city. Above, the rooftops become a kindergarten in the sky, where light, play, and greenery create a nurturing environment for the community’s youngest residents.
Between these two layers, a continuous network of terraces and courtyards replaces the hard edges of postwar housing with fluid, human-centered public spaces. Shaded walkways and communal gardens invite interaction, bridging the physical and emotional distance between generations.
Memento redefines urban renewal not as demolition and replacement, but as adaptation and reconnection—retaining memory while designing for the future. It proposes an architecture of empathy in which density coexists with openness, and social resilience is built through proximity, accessibility, and shared experience.
By weaving education, play, and community life into the urban fabric, this urban redevelopment project offers a hopeful vision for cities in transition—demonstrating how design can heal, regenerate, and remember.
