The Box Factory project in Jackson, CA is a disaster-resilient, zero-carbon community hub designed to operate independently from the grid, with all energy provided by an on-site photovoltaic system and all water supplied by an on-site solar-powered well and rainwater harvesting system. The building footprint is intentionally compact, preserving the surrounding ecosystem and maintaining 99.6% site vegetation, while integrating advanced sustainability features such as Living Building Challenge 4.0 alignment, Red List-free materials, and ultra-efficient water fixtures. The Box Factory in Jackson, CA is a one-of-a-kind community resilience hub designed for both everyday use and emergencies. This project takes a former partially developed site and transforms it into a safe, zero-carbon gathering place that can operate during emergencies thanks to its robust solar power and on-site water systems
