THE LAND OF FREEDOM-INTEGRITY PARK-

In the heart of Sarajevo lies the Nijaz Duraković Park, a city center space that has remained underutilized, encircled by walls that deter local community engagement. Inspired by Sarajevo's architectural tradition of creating enclosed parks within building complexes, this redesign aims to transform the existing urban park into a vibrant center for community activities and interactions, thereby strengthening the communal fabric of the surrounding areas.



The redesign breaks away from the park's previous isolation by eliminating the enclosing walls, opting instead for an open, accessible sports and recreation park. This fundamental change is intended to draw citizens from nearby areas, fostering a space of communal exchange and engagement. Within the park, the space is thoughtfully divided into "active" and "passive" zones to ensure that those seeking rest and tranquility are undisturbed by sports and activities, demonstrating a mindful approach to inclusive urban design.



Crucially, the redesign incorporates the park's existing sculptures, maintaining a tangible link to the area's cultural heritage while promoting environmental stewardship and innovation. This careful balance of preserving tradition with modern recreational needs exemplifies a sustainable approach to urban park design, ensuring that Nijaz Duraković Park serves as a beacon of cultural continuity, environmental awareness, and community interaction in Sarajevo's urban landscape. This project not only revitalizes a central city space but also reimagines it as a hub for environmental innovation and social exchange, embodying the spirit of community and open communication in the heart of Sarajevo.
