The project wins first place in the “Renewal and Revitalization” category of the 16th Community Competition. The site had participated in earlier editions of the competition, but damage from past typhoons had left the area severely deteriorated. Driven by the community’s desire for renewal, the space is reimagined as an “Animal Village” with thematic and tourism potential. Each section of the village features designs inspired by animals once raised or loved by residents. The project’s centerpiece—“Good Place”—is named in honor of a local elder who once trained monkeys, symbolizing a unique cultural legacy.
Good Place stands out for its clear thematic direction and orderly spatial layout. The journey begins along “Animal Avenue,” leading to various themed zones, each tied to local memories—rabbits, deer, ducks, and monkeys are brought to life through sculptures and interpretive signage, creating a strong narrative pathway. The monkey zone features nine monkey sculptures, symbolizing long-lasting prosperity and community harmony.
An ecological pond holds a time capsule that preserves community history and residents' aspirations. It is scheduled for reopening on June 30, twenty years later, to reconnect future generations with the present. Guided tours are led by residents themselves, with the community leader personally crafting a “dragon boat” for village rides, offering an immersive, interactive experience for visitors.
