Interview
Grand Vista Real Estate Group, Taiwan
As an Architectural Designer at Grand Vista Real Estate Group, Yang Shih Yu believes architecture should enrich daily life through thoughtful design, environmental awareness, and enduring quality. Through projects like PARK VIEW MANSION, he strives to create spaces that balance elegance, livability, and a lasting connection between people and their surroundings.
1 | Congratulations on your achievement! What inspired you to submit this project for the NY Architectural & Interior Design Awards?
Thank you. We chose to submit PARK VIEW MANSION because it represents the values Grand Vista Real Estate Group has always upheld: architectural refinement, long-term livability, and responsibility toward both people and the urban environment. This project is not simply about creating a beautiful building. It is about shaping a healthier, more graceful way of living through light, air, greenery, proportion, and thoughtful spatial planning. We felt that the NY Architectural & Interior Design Awards would be a meaningful platform to share this vision with an international audience.
2 | What is the defining concept or vision behind your award-winning project?
The defining vision behind PARK VIEW MANSION was to create a refined residential landmark that integrates architecture, nature, and everyday life. Located beside a nearly 8,000-ping public park, the project was designed to fully embrace its exceptional site condition and transform open views into part of the living experience itself. Its architectural language combines contemporary clarity with elegant restraint. Through vertically framed stone elements, livable split-level balconies, vertical greenery, and a rooftop sky garden, we sought to create a residence that feels modern, distinctive, and deeply connected to nature.
3 | Could you briefly share your journey into architecture and what inspired you to pursue this field?
My journey into architecture and development began with a belief that buildings should do more than provide shelter. Architecture has the power to shape emotions, influence daily life, and quietly reflect a person’s values, taste, and way of living. What continues to inspire me is the opportunity to bring together aesthetics, environmental awareness, construction discipline, and human experience in one coherent work. For me, architecture is not only a profession, but also a long-term commitment to creating places with meaning.
4 | How would you describe the mission or goals of your company or studio?
At Grand Vista Real Estate Group, our mission is to create architecture with lasting value. We believe a good building should remain meaningful long after it is completed—visually, functionally, and emotionally. We place strong emphasis on architectural aesthetics, construction quality, healthy living environments, and cultural character. Our goal is to develop refined residences that combine beauty, comfort, sustainability, and a sincere sense of responsibility toward the city and the people who live in it.
5 | Were there any unexpected challenges during the design or construction phases? How did they shape the final result?
One of the key challenges was ensuring that the original design vision could be fully realized without losing either elegance or practicality. The façade composition, vertical planting, landscape features, public spaces, and circulation all required careful integration. Another important challenge was maintaining rigorous quality control throughout the entire process. We placed great importance on continuous review and inspection before, during, and after construction. That discipline helped sharpen the final result, making the project more refined and ensuring that every major decision and detail remained true to the original intent.
6 | How does your design process usually unfold-from ideation to completion?
Our design process always begins with the site. We study its context, orientation, relationship to the city, natural light, ventilation potential, and the type of lifestyle it can support. In this project, the park-facing location immediately became a central design driver. From there, we develop the project through a balance of vision and precision. We refine the architectural language, circulation, landscape, façade rhythm, and interior atmosphere together, rather than treating them as separate elements. Throughout the process, we continuously evaluate both aesthetics and livability, so the final built result remains coherent and complete.
7 | If you had to describe the journey of this project in three words, what would they be?
Elegant, breathable, and enduring.
8 | What feedback have you received about your work that has been particularly meaningful or surprising?
One of the most meaningful responses we have received is that people can immediately feel a sense of calm, dignity, and quality when they enter the project. That matters deeply to us, because we are not pursuing superficial luxury. We want architecture to create a lasting emotional impression. It has also been especially meaningful to hear that the project feels both grand and welcoming at the same time. That balance is important to us, because true quality should never feel cold or distant.
9 | What does receiving this recognition mean for you, your team, or your studio?
This recognition is both an honor and an affirmation. It tells us that our commitment to architectural beauty, livability, construction rigor, and urban responsibility can be understood and appreciated beyond our local context. For our team, it is also a reminder that excellence is never accidental. It comes from shared standards, discipline, and the willingness to keep refining every detail. This award belongs to the entire team behind the project.
10 | How do you see this award influencing your future projects or career?
This award gives us even greater confidence to continue pursuing architecture that is refined, responsible, and deeply connected to human life. It reinforces our belief that thoughtful design and disciplined execution still matter, and that true quality can be recognized internationally. At the same time, it also brings greater responsibility. It encourages us to continue raising our standards and to create projects that not only meet expectations, but also contribute positively to the city, the environment, and the lives of residents.
11 | What's a project or idea you've been dreaming of bringing to life, and why does it inspire you?
I have always hoped to create projects that bring together architecture, landscape, art, and cultural spirit in a more complete and integrated way. A residential development should not only provide private living space; it should also shape a richer and more meaningful way of life. What inspires me most is the possibility of creating places where beauty is not separated from daily experience—where architecture can offer comfort, dignity, inspiration, and emotional belonging at the same time.
12 | Where do you see the architectural field heading in the next decade, and how do you envision contributing to its evolution?
Over the next decade, I believe architecture will move toward a more integrated understanding of beauty, sustainability, health, and long-term livability. People will care not only about how buildings look, but also about how they breathe, how they respond to climate, and how they support everyday well-being. We hope to contribute by continuing to create architecture that respects sunlight, air, water, greenery, and human experience. Our goal is to develop buildings that are aesthetically refined, environmentally aware, and genuinely beneficial to both individuals and the city as a whole.
13 | How do you see your designs contributing to the future of sustainable architecture?
For us, sustainability begins with respect—for nature, for climate, for materials, and for the people who will live in the building over time. At PARK VIEW MANSION, this is reflected in features such as three-sided daylight and ventilation, west-facing Low-E glass, vertical greenery, rooftop gardens, and planning principles centered on air, sunlight, and water as essential elements of healthy living. We believe sustainable architecture should not feel technical or forced. It should feel natural, elegant, and fully integrated into daily life. Our contribution is to show that sustainability and high-end residential design can coexist in a meaningful and beautiful way.
14 | If you could design anything, with no limits on budget or imagination, what would it be?
If there were no limits, I would love to create a large-scale architectural work that fully integrates residence, landscape, art, culture, and wellness into one complete living environment. It would be a place where every element—from urban planning to the smallest interior detail—is guided by both beauty and human well-being. What interests me most is not extravagance for its own sake, but completeness: creating a timeless environment that embodies dignity, serenity, and a deep understanding of how architecture can elevate life.
