UPS Hub

This is a project for UPS Corporate Headquarters. The site is located in west SOHO which is under-developed blocks in Manhattan. UPS needs a world-class logistic system to provide shipping service as well as office space for administration. We proposed an eye-catching landmark to activate the block, providing office and logistic space for UPS.



This project is coordinating logistic systems and office space together. The combination of these two typologies makes the project special. Our main concept here is that we play with the geometry of ribbon and density of space to combine the two typologies. We used "ribbon" as our concept to organize space between the office and the logistic system. The ribbon separates but also connects these two different space types. We also play with the "density" of space in our project. The density indicates the program. More dense space is for logistics, cargo and machines. More open floor is for human, office and plaza. We designed high efficient logistic covering around the building. The executive office space has a good view of logistics which can observe the situation of the system. While the administrative office is more separate from the logistics.



The geometry created by the "ribbon" also inspires the landscape design. The building is lifted above to provide more public space as a breathing zone that New York city treasures a lot. We design some benches and pedestrians on the landscape to serve the elegance of the building.
