This project transcends mere elegance, drawing inspiration from "Miyabi," the ancient Japanese aesthetic cultivated in Kyoto. Miyabi symbolizes grace, restraint, and timeless beauty. This project aimed not merely to recreate traditional Japanese architecture, but to express its spirit in a contemporary space.
It incorporates both traditional Japanese aesthetics and the ancient Japanese philosophical concept of "Ma," which refers to the meaningful space that exists between objects. By incorporating "Ma" as a design element, harmony and rhythm are created. As a result, a space was realized where visitors can experience meticulously composed proportions, light and shadow, and traditional Japanese aesthetics through their five senses.
The television wall was designed with inspiration from the tokonoma (alcove) of traditional shoin-zukuri architecture. By incorporating the concept of "Ma," it expresses balance, simplicity, and traditional Japanese aesthetics. Furthermore, traditional ink painting is used to highlight Japan's artistic heritage. It goes beyond mere decoration, creating a dialogue between light and shadow, presence and stillness, giving depth to the space.
