This project introduces a groundbreaking approach to architectural sustainability by transforming off-cut wood, typically discarded as waste, into valuable construction components for furniture, architectural elements, and entire pavilions. In response to the growing global crisis of material overuse and wood scarcity, this work proposes a replicable, design-to-fabrication framework for upcycling irregular wood waste into structurally sound and aesthetically compelling architectural forms.

Titled the Sustainable Building Design and Construction (SBDC) framework, the methodology bridges material science, digital design, and structural engineering. It begins with high-precision 3D scanning of reclaimed wood, capturing unique material characteristics and geometry to create a digital material database. These digitized pieces are then recomposed into building blocks using voxel-based simulations, generative algorithms, and finite element analysis to ensure performance and integrity.

This system is validated at multiple scales—from stools and columns to a full-scale architectural prototype known as the Primitive Hut. The pavilion embodies the project's ethos: a digitally generated structure made entirely from rescued materials, showcasing the union of ecological responsibility and computational craft.

By integrating cutting-edge digital tools with local material reuse, the project reimagines waste as a design resource and advocates for a circular economy in architecture. It offers a hopeful vision: buildings made not by consuming new resources, but by recovering and reinventing the old.
