Japandi Home

This residence is designed in a Modern Japandi style, using light, shadow, proportions, and textures to create a subtle, calm, and artistic splendor.



This 3,000 sq. ft. apartment is located in the heart of Hong Kong's bustling Central Mid-levels. It was designed with one ultimate purpose: to offer a peaceful refuge. Recognizing the high-stress nature of the city, the client wished for a cozy, deeply relaxing private retreat where they could fully unwind and escape the urban chaos.



The lobby adopts a minimalist approach to channel an artistic vibe. Upon entering the foyer, a curved slatted screen gently filters natural light into the space. The foyer serves as a natural division: one side leads to the communal zones—including the living room, dining room, and breakfast area— while a few steps up on the other side lead to the private bedrooms.

The interior design relies heavily on a rich palette of natural timber, beautifully balanced by negative space. While the home offers abundant storage, it remains hidden behind oversized doors that blend seamlessly into the walls, maintaining a clean and cohesive aesthetic.



Although sleek minimalism ties the whole house together for ultimate comfort, the breakfast area deliberately breaks the rhythm. By incorporating striking colours like midnight blue and caramel orange, it introduces a retro Mid-century vibe—adding a fun, unexpected twist to the serene atmosphere.



Given the large scale of the property and relatively low ceiling heights, natural sunlight struggled to reach the interiors. Therefore, the primary design objective was to maximize the influx of natural light throughout the entire space.
